Filming postponed :(

Hi everyone!

So yea we had to postponed filming. My parents told me that on Sunday we have a family event because my sister is home from college. Jonathan and I weren't too upset about this because it gives us a perfect opportunity to continue working on our script.

The website we are using to create our script is http://celtx.com. I searched on google which website could make us the best template for scripts and I thought this was the perfect one. It's not too hard to use and it's free.

I believe that we're going to try and get a finished script by the end of this next week so we are well prepared for shooting.

Thanks for sticking around,
Peace!

Shooting

Hi everyone!

So this Sunday is the day where we're going to start shooting. We were planning on filming out of order from the outline to make things easier. I believe we decided to film the scene where they're on the virtual reality date. We're going to film at vista view park because we pictured the perfect picnic date spot would be there.
This is what the park looks like:

Both of the main characters will be wearing dressy ish attire. The boy will be wearing a button down and jeans and the girl will be wearing a sundress. We're going to set up a whole picnic for the date with food, candles, and more.

I will keep you guys posted,
Peace!

Outline and Title

Hey everyone!

So we finished the outline for the short film. Jonathan and I decided on the title being Disconnected. We feel this works perfect because the main character is constantly on his phone and reliant on technology that he is disconnected from the world. Our outline isn't that good, its more of a rough draft and how we expect the movie to go.

Here it is:

Title:   * Disconnected *

Scene 1: *At school*
  • Main character and friend notice pretty girl in hall
  • Dialogue between main character and friend
  • School bell rings and they disperse
Scene 2: *In City*
  • Walking home talking with friend about how main character wants to ask out girl
  • Dialogue between friend and main character

Scene 3: *Bedroom*
  • Both walk in
  • Main character lays on bed and friend lays on couch
  • Girl text message pops up on screen
  • Guy freaks out and friend jumps on bed

Scene 4: * Bedroom*
  • Main character texts girl back and starts conversation
  • Friend helps main character text girl
  • Conversation continues until guy asks out girl and she says yes
Scene 5: * Bedroom*
  • Main character starts getting ready for date
  • Puts on a suit
  • Sits on bed and puts on virtual headset

Scene 6 - Date: *Vista View Park*
  • Montage of happy date
  • No audio of them talking
  • Just moving mouth and music in background
*Date ends*
Scene 7- *Bedroom*
  • Takes off goggles and smiles

Scene 8- *In city
  • Main character is walking on the sidewalk on his phone
  • Female main character is also walking on the sidewalk on her phone
  • Both walk passed one another and don't notice each other
*Scene ends*

I'm still contemplating changing the ending of it because i'm not sure the audience will get what were trying to say. I want the date to end and both characters are happy, but I still want them disconnected from the world. Having them walking down the street and passing by each other and not noticing one another signifies the fact that they are too caught up with technology and don't notice there surroundings. I'm going to try and think of alternate endings to work with so I have a variety to choose from.

Thanks guys,
Peace!

Adding Text messages to the screen

Hi everyone!

So since Jonathan and I decided that we're going to add the text messages to the screen we realized that it would be a hard thing to do. Fortunatly, Mrs. Stocklosa sent me an article on how to do it. Unfortunatly, it says I need to use After Effects, and I dont have that. I do know someone that does have and knows how to use it. His name is jeremy and he is going to help us figure out how to solve this problem. He also has Premiere and he said we can use it to edit this piece. I think adding the text messages to the screen is going to be very cool and different. I'm glad the audience doesn't have to see the phone every time there's a message coming through. Now they can see the main characters facial emmotions every time a text is sent and comes in. Hopefully, this all works out and it looks amazing.

Peace!

Ready Player One

Hi everyone!

So I finally got to watch Ready Player One and let me tell you, it was outstanding. I thought the whole concept of having the story be shown through a virtual reality world was crazy. I believe Steven Spielberg did a tremendous job with this film. Ready Player One is set in the year 2045, and the world is on the edge of chaos and collapse. The people of the world have found salvation by going into the OASIS. The OASIS is this virtual reality world where you can be whoever you want. When the creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves an easter egg hidden somewhere inside. This ignites a contest for whoever finds it gets to take control of the OASIS. I'm not trying to create a whole new world for this short film. I'm trying to create a sense where the main characters go on a date and they're both looking at each other in virtual reality. They both will be themselves, not an avatar. I guess it will look a little like when there were meetings in Star Wars and there were holographic people around. I know I can't make holographic people but we're gonna try and add an effect to the screen so the audience understands that they are on a date in virtual reality.

Peace!

Shooting

Hi everyone!

So Jonathan and I decided when we were going to start shooting. Since we do not need that many cast members, we realized that we could start pretty soon. We have decided to shoot next Sunday. We will be filming at my house in my room. My bedroom will be the male main characters room and my sisters' room will be the female main characters room. We have not yet decided what the characters will be wearing but I think it will just be normal clothes like t-shirts and a hoodie or something like that. Jonathan and I will discuss this more this upcoming week and ill get back to you guys on that shortly. We are going to be filming on my iPhone Xr which has an outstanding camera and microphone on it. I will also be editing the film on iMovie.

Peace!

Group Meetings

Hi everyone!

So today, Mrs. Stocklosa put everyone into groups in class to discuss what we have so far with our project. I was giving ideas and people were giving ideas to me. I explained to everyone the plot of the short film and everyone seemed to love it. I asked them what I should do to add more to the story other than just having people texting the whole time on the screen. I was given the idea to include virtual reality to the film. We figured out to have the boy and girl go on a date in a virtual reality world. I know this all sounds kind of like the movie Ready Player One, but instead of creating a whole new world, Jonathan and I would add an effect to the screen that would have the outline of the virtual reality goggles to make it seem like the goggles are on. The shot will be in first person for both people while they are on the date. Mrs. Stocklosa said that she has an extra pair of virtual reality goggles that we could borrow so that helps us out tremendously now because we wouldn't have to go out and buy some. In the group, they also thought that I should include a scene where the boy is out walking in the real world and he's on his phone walking on the sidewalk. The boy and girl walk past one another and don't even notice each other. This shows the audience that there is still a lack of human face to face communication in the world and that everyone is overly obsessed with technology. I have not actually seen Ready Player One so I will get on that very soon!

Peace!
